Soccer in Diplomacy Watch Party

November 29, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Soccer is the only sport played in every corner of the world. Can soccer also be an effective means of global diplomacy?

Join the Bob Graham Center and UF’s History Department for an informal watch party of the U.S. v. Iran World Cup soccer match to learn more about the beautiful game’s role in history, politics, religion, as well as the struggle for class, gender, and racial equality.

Professors Matt Jacobs and Philip Janzen will be on hand to discuss how soccer has been entangled with wars, the spread of empires, the rise of nationalist
movements, and the reigns of dictators.

Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
